Taiwan Trip

Encountering God in Taiwanese Cultures.

Creativity. Heat. Conversation and lots and lots of food. It was in Taiwan that I encountered a more colourful kind of God than I sometimes do with alongside churches in the UK. It was through Buddhist statues and incense sticks mixed with the sights and smells of citylife that I remembered the woman touching the hem of Jesus cloak in a crowd. The audacity of hope and belief in someone else when you are an outsider can move you to act in ways which you may not otherwise. Taiwan is crowded in the cities and there are few Christians - they are in the minority. In this way they are small enough to be flexible and change in response to needs around them in their country and neighbourhoods as appropriate.

It was in Taiwan that I saw Churches encountering Jesus through life in the scriptures and their vision being challenged and changed - to look around them in their cities and neighbourhoods at what the church may be able to do for and with marginalised people.
