Earlier this month a handful of women in Wythenshawe went onto the local radio station to share about being a woman in ministry. One of the women was Joyce from Zambia. She is making her vision reality as she has returned after 6 months in the UK to set up a home and centre 'Lesa Kutemwa' meaning God is Love in Chingola, a city in the copper belt of northern Zambia. It is to be a 10-bed home for babies and children at most risk because they are children who are orphaned by HIV Aids.
Next month is the World Council of Churches assembly in Brasil. Thousands of people will gather to worship, learn, explore and prophesy together. Of particular interest will be what statements are made about alternatives to economic globalisation and what responses the churches around the world are making. It is something I have written about a little in relation to my experiences and research in Oceania (south pacific) where theological colleges and community groups as well as churches have been involved in responding creatively and prophetically to imperial economic policies and trade agreements.
