You are invited to a reflective conference day entitled
Christ and the Earth
Contemplation and action on the way to a new kind of life
by Eco-congregation in partnership with EarthAbbey
at St. Marks United Reformed Church
Oatlands Rd, Wythenshawe, Manchester, M22 6AH
To include:
prayer and contemplation, stories of innovative projects and a unique presentation about land and dispossession entitled ‘The Meek shall inherit the Earth’.
The day will be led by Rev Dr Chris Sunderland, founder of EarthAbbey,
in conjunction with St Mark’s Church and Eco-Congregation.
Cost £7. Please bring your own lunch. Drinks provided.

The day to include:
10.00 am Arrive, welcome, drink.
10.30 am Introduction to the worldwide environmental challenge as a spiritual issue.
11.00 am With Christ the contemplative:The parable of the soils.
11.30 am Working it out: EarthAbbey stories and stories from your neighbourhood including:
– The Walled Garden project – a community growing initiative in one of the most
deprived areas of the South West.
– Guerilla Gardening – how some ‘unofficial’ gardening won the admiration of a neighbourhood.
– Forming a community-supported agriculture initiative.
– Local stories.
1.00 pm Lunch
1.45 pm The Great Dream- personal, artistic and creative engagement with the biblical hope for a peace that embraces the whole creation.
2.15 pm Building community with Grow Zones: hear about this national EarthAbbey
initiative based on working together on each other’s gardens to grow edible produce using Permaculture principles. An opportunity to build friendships across a neighbourhood and make deep spiritual connections.
3.00 pm Tea.
3.20 pm ‘The Meek shall inherit the earth’ – preview of a story/Bible telling presentation based on Naboth’s vineyard and the perennial story of land and dispossession that echoes down through human history.
4.00 pm Close.
