Although this photo does not make the best of our stained glass windows of the 4 Gospel writers with the crucified and risen Jesus our recent Easter card packs (£2 for 5 cards with envelopes!) to raise funds for one of our international partners 'Lesa Kutemwa' (God is Love) in Zambia are proving quite popular. We printed about 30 packs and have sold 17 and some single cards too.
Now we are going wider! With a team of card-makers in their late 70s and early 80s who are keen we are planning to have a through-the-year card range available of different kinds of cards for all occasions to help raise funds. We need to raise at least £20,000 to enable a 5 bedroomed house to be bought for up to 10 children & babies who are HIV positive. This is no easy task since we are a congregation of around 35 people on Sunday mornings - but we reckon that our relationship base is about 800 to 1000 people so with a little time, energy, focus and prioritising anything is possible. With wider support from other organisations, churches and groups we raised over £750 before New Year to enable the work on Lesa Kutemwa to begin in Zambia through our partner Joyce Chibungo who shared 6 months with us at St. Mark's and as part of the Tree of Life Centre.
There are many more creative efforts on the way including:
- A sponsored clergy bike ride during the summer - anyone fancy it
- A sponsored long walk across England with churches together friends
- Invitations to speak & present the vision of Lesa Kutemwa at a few events
